Project costing
See, for every project of the construction or interior POS, its contract value, what was billed on it (its progress claims and milestones, less returns), what it cost (the purchases and expenses charged to it) and the profit and margin so far. Projects at a loss come first, then those on a thin margin. Part of the Project costing add-on for construction and interior design companies.
Steps
- Add the project on the POS terminal's Projects tab and bill its progress claims or milestones from there as usual.
- When you record a purchase or an expense for the project, pick it in the Project field. On a project's page, Add expense opens a new expense already charged to it.
- Open Purchases → Project costing to see every project's billed, cost, profit and margin; open a project for its invoices and costs.
Tips
- All amounts are before VAT. A construction project is worth its bill of quantities, variation orders included; an interior project its quoted value.
- Thin margin means the profit is under 10% of what was billed. A return of a purchase lowers the project's cost; a return of a claim lowers what was billed.
