Bank rules
What to do with the bank lines your books will never have: bank service charges and the VAT on them booked to their accounts, internal sweeps set aside. When a statement is imported every line is checked against the active rules, lowest priority number first; the first rule that fires books the line on Accept or sets it aside at once. Part of the Bank reconciliation add-on.
Steps
- Open Bank reconciliation → Rules: each rule shows what it looks for, what it does, its priority and how many lines it has handled.
- Press New rule and pick a preset, or set where to look (description, reference, counterparty or any text), the text it contains and whether it is for money in, out or both. The line under the fields shows how many imported lines it fires on.
- Choose the action: Book to an account (pick the account and the description in the books) or Set aside. Give it a priority from 1 to 999 and save; it applies to the next statement you import.
Tips
- A line a rule would book still gets its sure match first; the rule only books the lines left with no match.
