Bank statements
Import the statement your bank gives you (CSV from online banking, MT940 or CAMT.053) and match every line to the entry in your books. The sure matches (same amount, close date, the reference in the bank's text) are accepted in one tap; the rest show their best candidates with a score. A line the books do not have yet, such as a bank charge or an unknown deposit, is booked to an account; a line that is not yours, such as an internal sweep, is set aside. When no line is left to match, the statement is reconciled and locked. Part of the Bank reconciliation add-on.
Steps
- Open Bank reconciliation → Bank statements. Each statement shows its period, its lines and how much of it is done; the badge on the menu counts the lines still to match.
- Press Import statement, choose the file you downloaded from online banking or paste it. The preview shows the format found, the lines, the period, the money in and out and whether the lines add up to the closing balance. Press Import.
- Open the statement. To match lists the open lines with the best book entry and its score. Press Accept sure matches: every sure match is matched and the lines your rules book are posted, in one go.
- For the rest: Accept takes the suggestion, Find lists every book entry with the same amount, Book posts the line to an account (money in: bank against the account; money out: the account against the bank) and Set aside leaves it out of the books. Undo puts a line back.
- When nothing is left to match, press Reconcile: the statement is locked with its difference. Reopen unlocks it.
Tips
- A suggestion is sure when its score is 85% or more and no other entry comes close. A payment the bank books days later or without your reference scores lower: check it and accept it by hand.
- Importing the same file twice is refused. A book entry can be matched to one bank line only; undo the first match to move it.
