AI connections
Connect the AI models your team's AI assistant may use: Claude, GPT, Gemini, Mistral, DeepSeek, Grok, OpenRouter's free models, your own Ollama server and more. Each connection uses your own API key, is tested before it is saved, and lists its models cheapest first with what a typical question costs in your currency. Part of the AI assistant add-on.
Steps
- Open Settings → AI models and press Add connection.
- Choose the provider. The window shows its cheapest models that can use your data and where to get a key.
- Paste the API key (for your own server, its API address too). Tick the free tier switch if your key is on the provider's free tier.
- Press Test and add. StartERP asks the provider for its models; a refused key is not saved.
- In Models, switch on the models your team may pick and press Save. The newest models that can use your data are on already, and so are the free ones: every free OpenRouter model and every Gemini free-tier model (Flash, Flash-Lite, 2.5 Pro and Gemma). Press Test on a connection to add new free ones.
Tips
- Your key is stored encrypted and shows only as its last four characters. Leave it as it is when you edit a connection to keep it.
- Prices are the providers' list prices for a typical question (about 6,000 tokens in and 700 out), updated daily. The provider bills your key directly.
- Test checks a connection again; Remove deletes it and its key. Only people who can edit the settings change connections.
- Without the AI assistant add-on you can browse the models and prices; add it under Subscription & billing to connect them.
- With no connection of your own, StartAI uses StartERP's free models, a set number of answers a day. Once you add a working connection, only your own models are used.
