Steps

  1. Open Malta fiscal receipts and follow How to get your EXO number, step by step: check your store details, press Ask StartERP to sign for the Software Supplier Certificate (StartERP signs and stamps it online; print it on A4), print a sample pre-bill and any sale from Sales as the sample fiscal receipt, get your auditor's certificate, then apply on servizz.gov.mt (service WEB-04190) with the four documents. Each step shows Done, Next or To do.
  2. When the MTCA issues the EXO number, type it under Fiscal details, pick your VAT registration (Article 10, 11 or 12) and press Save. Until then, keep issuing receipts from your VAT receipt book or fiscal cash register.
  3. At the till, press Pre-bill to print the order before payment; it says PRE-BILL and NOT A FISCAL RECEIPT and has no receipt number. The receipt printed after payment is the fiscal receipt.
  4. Close each till's shift at the end of the day for its Z report, then pick the day under Fiscal day: it shows the first and last receipt numbers, returns, net takings and VAT, any number missing from a series and the day's Z reports.

Tips

  • An issued sale or return can't be changed or deleted: to correct one, issue a sales return against it. Payments and remarks can still be added.
  • An Article 11 (exempt small business) store prints EXP before its VAT number and marks every line [E] exempt, as the MTCA's guideline of 13 July 2026 asks. Every Maltese store also picks its VAT registration on Settings, with or without this add-on.
  • The signed letter certifies the business name, outlet address, VAT number, VAT registration, category and number of tills you had when you asked. If you change any of them, the letter says your store details changed: press Ask StartERP to sign again. A new EXO number does not need a new letter.
  • Ask StartAI to check a fiscal day: it reads the same receipt numbers, missing numbers and Z reports.
